I certainly won’t argue with you on that. It’s a hard sell still in education. Lots of colleges barely even touch on functional still. Feel free to reach out to your local colleges and tell them that you wish they spent more time on functional programming.

One of the things I really like about using Scala in CS1 is that I can use it as a vehicle to introduce a lot of functional both to students and to my colleagues without forcing everyone to abandon the OO that they feel comfortable with.
