I tend to view Kotlin as a watered down version of Scala. It was JetBrains' attempt to to make a version of Scala that was more palatable to the average Java developer. I think that they succeeded in that regard. But I'm not convinced they did anything that was actually an improvement other than the null-safety aspects.

Are there things that stand out to you as features of Kotlin that are actually improvements on the Scala base as opposed to just being more palatable to devs who are used to imperative programming?
