I'm getting around to reading this a bit late. As a result, I'm reading this after reading a lot of recent discussion about @alpha and the possible changes that might be made to it. It makes me glad that I haven't found any time to work on the next edition of my textbooks. I appreciate your insight on the slow phase-out of the older features.
